The SAT uses a 1600-point score scale. The optional SAT Essay is scored separately. Subscores and cross-test scores provide additional insight. We need qualified people to read and score student essays for the ACT Writing Test. Essay scoring takes place online, facilitated by an Electronic Performance Evaluation Network (ePEN) System designed by Pearson Educational Measurement. This means you can read and score essays anytime and from any personal workstation with an Internet.
Whereas the old ACT essay score was simply the sum of two readers’ holistic grades, the new 2-12 score range is defined as the “average domain score.” The average is rounded to the nearest integer, with scores of .5 being rounded up.
SAT sectional scores are reported between 200 and 800, and the composite score is the sum of the two (400-1600). Both exams score essays separately, from 2-12 on the ACT and 2-8 on the SAT. The ACT scoring system includes reporting category scores within each multiple-choice section, which are given as percentages of correct answers.
The ACT with Writing is exactly the same as the regular ACT, just with an essay administered at the end. This essay is scored but this score DOES NOT go into your ACT Composite score; it is separate.
